Klein Tools MM400 Multimeter
A multimeter's mechanical operation, country of origin, and the accuracy of the test's input parameters weren't important because we only used it to test voltage, current, and resistance. But the MM400 multimeter was comfortable to hold and simple to use.
The Klein Tools MM400 has all the features you want in a basic multimeter. It comes with a thermocouple adapter, which is handy for testing semiconductors, and it also has a screw-terminal voltage probe. It's capable of measuring AC and DC voltage up to 600V, and it's fairly accurate, with almost no offset. It has a large, easy-to-see meter that's good for both reading numbers on the LCD and for knowing at a glance whether or not your readings are accurate. The MM400 is an intuitive, reliable tester that works well in a variety of settings. At $60, it's one of the best multimeters you can reasonably get, and it's fantastic value.

KINCREA Kuman Digital Multimeter
This paper-clip-size digital multimeter is our favorite of the bunch. With the 6000-count screen, dual ranges, auto and manual voltage readout, and a wide range of advanced features, it's perfect for both professionals and DIY gurus.
This multimeter is a neat and compact unit with a lot of features, including an auto-ranging button for quickly taking a reading in ohms, volts, amps, amperes, and percent. The unit also has other useful features, like date hold, a hanging magnet, and a 120-point auto-ranging feature for testing capacitors. Just keep in mind that readings aren't as precise as with other multimeters, and the display is rather small, so you might have a hard time seeing small numbers. Also, this multimeter uses AAA batteries, so it's on the heavy side, and it doesn't have a clip or holster, so it's easy enough to lose. The screen resolution is also a bit low, so details are hard to see. However, this multimeter still has some benefits, including that it's extremely easy to use, and it includes temperature probes, a temperature thermometer, 120-volt AC and DC plug adapters, and 40-feet of red and black test leads.

Fluke 101 Basic Digital Multimeter Pocket Meter Portable Equipment Industrial (Original Version)

Amprobe
Amprobe's multimeter can test a wide range of AC and DC voltage and resistance measurements. Its sturdy construction, large display, and automatic data hold make it one of the best multimeters you can buy.
The Amprobe AM-510 is the least expensive multimeter that we tested, but it's also the most robust, measuring AC and DC voltages up to 600 V, AC current in a range of 1 mA to 600 A, DC current from 10 mA to 600 A, resistance, frequency, capacitance, and duty cycle. The backlit LCD display is easy to read, and it has a large digital display that makes it easy to see if all the parameters you need are shown in real-time. The AM-510 comes with a plastic case and clip, but it's much heavier and bulkier, with three times as many test leads as the one found on the Fluke 87V, which we tested alongside it as a direct competitor. As a result, it's a bit of a hassle to attach the leads to the tester, but once you're attached, the AM-510 is easier to use than the Fluke. The Amprobe's relative zero mode makes it easy to see the difference between voltages or current readings to help avoid electrical shock. Its accuracy is 0.1% (the Fluke's is 0.5%). A clamp meter is a better choice if you're working on small appliances or wiring, but for basic home troubleshooting, the Amprobe AM-510 is more than enough.

FLUKE-101 Digital Multimeter
For basic measurements, this multimeter provides accurate DC readings. Its fully insulated autorange clamp is relatively sensitive, and a beep informs you when you have continuity.
Digital multimeters are useful for measuring current, voltage, resistance, and continuity, and are often the first digital test gear a new DIYer or technician will use. The most affordable multimeters generally monitor two or three of these (for example, only volts) and are a bit pricey. The Fluke-101, however, has all the features you'll likely need in a multimeter: all the basics, plus a diode and continuity test, and even an ammeter with resolution down to 1/10 of a milliamp. It doesn't have an auto-ranging function, but the manual tells us that most DIYers never use that feature, so the Fluke-101 is a no-brainer.

AstroAI Digital Multimeter
This multimeter is our best pick for a first multimeter. Its low price and wide range of features make it a good choice for both the beginner and experienced electrician.
When it comes to measuring AC current and voltage, few multimeters are as reliable, as versatile, or as affordable as the AstroAI Digital Multimeter. It's the only multimeter we tested with True RMS current measurement, so our tests were consistent. The AstroAI Digital Multimeter is extremely easy to use as well. It has handy features like the adjustable auto-ranging function, and it includes useful accessories like a 9-volt battery and alligator clips. Unlike some other multimeters we tested, it offers a backlit LCD for easy viewing in dim light, and it has a rotary switch so you can quickly choose between measurement modes. While the AstroAI Digital Multimeter can't test AC capacitors, it's a handy device for testing resistors, continuity, and continuity checks, so it's a great all-around budget multimeter.
