Tankless water heaters have been gaining popularity with homeowners thanks to their efficiency, smaller footprint, and ability to provide hot water on demand. Like a conventional water heater, a tankless heater heats water on demand, only instead of storing hot water in tanks, it heats only the amount of water needed. This means when you need hot water for washing dishes or taking a bath, the heater will heat the water instantly, so you don't waste energy heating water that will be used in a few minutes.

In our testing, we looked at how each tankless heater performed. Our pros put each heater through its paces by testing how long it takes to heat water to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and how quickly it heats water. We also looked at how each heater performed during the 10 minutes it took to heat 6 gallons of water. After 10 minutes, each water heater was turned off and hot water samples were measured for temperature. Our testers also evaluated each heater's energy efficiency by taking note of its annual operating costs, which take into account yearly fuel costs, electric costs, and maintenance.
